The addition of boron to the steel as well as it been heat treated, quenched and tempered gives this product a unique combination of characteristics. Boron steel has hardness, weldability, strength, increased fatigue resistance and above all in a ground engaging tool, greater wear resistance.

Carbon : 0.26 – 0.36
Silicon : 0.15 – 0.35
Manganese : 1.10 -1.45
Chromium : 0.20 Max
Sulphur : 0.05 Max
Phosphorus : 0.04 Max
Boron : 0.0005 – 0.003
Brinell hardness : 420 – 500

CARBON STEEL

Grader blades are manufactured from the steel specification SAE 1084 or equivalent:

Carbon : 0.80 – 0.90
Manganese : 0.60 – 0.90
Brinell Hardness : 270 – 310

Non heat treated cutting edges

Are generally manufactured from  the steel SAE  1572 or equivalent:Carbon : 0.60 – 0.70
Maganese : 0.60 – 0.90
Brinell Hardness : 240 – 280
